The mystery of RN #61683 CA #23638

I recently tried a different style of Jockey underwear (updated my comparison post accordingly), and when I looked at the tag to see the style number I saw it said "CA #23638".  That number seemed familiar, so I checked my other underwear (in the other style) and it had the same number.  Okay, I figured it must be the other number on the tag that designates the style.  RN #61683 But when I looked at the other underwear, it also had the number.  These are the only numbers on the tags, and they're exactly the same on two different styles of panties made in three different countries!

So I went a-googling, and discovered people listing RN #61683 CA #23638 as the style number for all manner of Jockey products, from boxer briefs to t-shirts!

So what do these numbers mean?  Why bother printing them on the label if they apparently mean the same thing as "Jockey"?  And why isn't there a style number?

Welcome to the no logo economy.

Just out of curiosity, is Honduras one of the countries involved?

impudent strumpet said...

Yes it is! The three countries are Honduras, Costa Rica and Bangladesh. The Honduras ones are most comfortable.

laura k said...

Could the CA mean it is for sale in Canada?

impudent strumpet said...

Could be, I have no way of knowing. I've never seen any that weren't for sale in Canada.

Googlers from other countries: do your Jockeys have the same numbers?

I am trying to find the underwear that I love>>
the numbers printed in side the waistband are RN#61683 and CA#23638 Made in China, purchased in the U.S. The stores on't seem to have them anymore. 54% bamboo23% cotton and a little nylon and spandex Grrrr.... Can't find them

Anonymous said...

Any luck yet anyone? I found some on eBay that I love bc of the prints and style, but want to make sure they're as close to the the tactel material versus just plain cotton...

I just solved the mystery. They are called Seam-free Modern Fit hipsters or bikinis.

Haha. I'm looking for the same thing for my son. He loves these longer smooth fit boxer briefs I bought him, that I can no longer find. They have those numbers, made in Bangladesh. Came in a two pack and bought at Target in the U.S. (Michigan to be exact).

I thought I was the only one who had this issue. Shopping for jockey underwear is like a box of chocolates. ...never know what you will get....very frustrating trying to find the style that I like..

I also thought that I was the only one with this problem! RN#61683 CA#23638 And to make matters worse, the dog ate 3 pairs of the few that I did have!

I also have the same numbers on mine. They are made in Costa Rica. Women's white 100% cotton with the wide white elastic band that says Jockey in grey print on band; they are not seamless. I purchased mine at JC Penny's in CA. Packaging thrown out long ago but thought they were called a french cut. Agree what is going on with the tags. Getting ready to place an online order and confused about the tags.

I just sent email to Jockey asking for input and a link to this site. Hopefully mystery will be solved by customer service. Keep you all posted.

Hi Strumpeter, funny & silly situation but quite serious nonetheless. I've got this girl-fwb that always wears my high end briefs, that I bought in NY. She loves the feel, and me being a tag cutter (hate'm). She extensively searched everywhere carrying My briefs in her bag O_o..... The good news is she went common and SCORE └(^o^)┘with these jockeys same S/N & Ca. Numbers BUT tag says made in INDIA! These are 100% cotton French cut w/a 1/2" waist and leg band panties. Cheaper to have hired a seamstress for 10 pair compared to My time and embarassment locating a stores cache of jockeys. JOCKEYS great product but have me so pissed off! Petition? Boycott? Buy out? Mafia hit? For me right now free lifetime or the jockey swims with the fishes <`)))><

This is not comforting. I am down to my last two (very worn out) pairs, and I''m in the same boat as the other person posting

That is the same exact thing for me. I purchased mine from some store where they were on clearance because they were missing a pair... supposed to be a 3-pack but only a two pack. I LOVE these underwear for fit, comfort, etc. Please, Jockey, help us out!!!

Wow I am searching for the same ones too! Most comfortable I ever wore. Please post if someone solves this mystery!!!

I too have been trying to find style #61683. They are very comfortable and have no panty lines but cannot find them anywhere anymore. I agree- why do companies think they have to keep changing their products.

I cannot believe there are other sane (?) women out there doing the same thing I am: spending hours trying to find the same underpants as I am!! Mine have the sameRN and CA #s, but say 100% nylon and Made in China! they are the BEST fitting I have ever had, and will keep trying to find them! Maybe on Mars????

Yes, I love these as well. Am on line right now trying to find them. Was no one successful?

I eagerly scrolled through the comments here, hoping for an answer ... but no luck, huh? I am in the same boat; last few pairs barely hanging on, but dearly beloved.

OK i think the answer is Jockey Comfies 3-pk Microfiber Panties. I like the hipster style but they also come in briefs and French Cut.
Kohls has the briefs and french cut. http://www.kohls.com/product/prd-1729109/jockey-comfies-3-pk-microfiber-french-cut-panties-3326-womens.jsp
Jockey has the hipster in white but they are out of stock: http://www.jockey.com/catalog/product/hipster-comfies-3pk

I was confused by the RN and CA #s too! I was looking for some boxers in the style that my husband likes. I did manage to find out that the RN and CA#s are Registered Identification Numbers (CA is the Canadian number) that the FTC gives to businesses who deal and trade in textiles.

Maybe we need to coordinate by each sending a letter or electronic inquiry to Jockey at the same time. I just sent one through their website. I'm going to write back and give them this blog link. Purchased 15 pairs over a couple of years timeframe from Macy's, fearing they'd some day be discontinued. Great designs, comfortable, seamless NON-bikinis. Best panties I've owned in >30 years.

Hi. I was looking for a pair of women's panties with the RN# 61683 which I purchased at a local Macy's. I couldn't find them on their website so I checked the Jockey website. I couldn't find them there either, so I called Jockey. The customer service rep could not help me. She stated that the number was not an item number or style number and that if I didn't find them in the store I may have to find another brand. I was quite surprised that a company wouldn't mind losing a customer to another brand. Oh, well, that stinks for Jockey, because I WILL look for another brand.

Donna Nowak said...

I filled out an online inquiry, and a Jockey customer service rep emailed with a few questions to help me find the current/comparable women's panty. Same as many others have posted, most of mine only said RN#61683 and CA#23838.

As a result of my answers, the CSR helped me find a match for style, just different prints:

1) country of mfr(Thailand was the only imprint readable on one pair of mine)
2) fabric composition (mine was 90% Tactel Nylon, 10% Lycra Spandex )
3) description I shared: "No side or back seams, close to a full fit, zig-zag stick/serged waist and leg openings"

I'm pretty sure I just ordered these off the Jockey website. Search for "No Panty Line Promise Tactel". They come in different cuts/sizes/prints.

First my mascara, then my bras, and now my underwear. I agree with the person who said, "why do companies have to keep changing their products?" Don't they understand how long it takes women to find just the right thing and how much money we spend on products we don't end up liking in the process of finding perfection? Ah, I think I just answered my own question. Companies keep changing their products so we have to constantly spend in the continual search.

Just bought a pkg at Sears in Canada with CA #23638. They were Jockey French Cuts. Covered band at waist and leg and super cotton comfy. They fit perfectly without that droopy bum issue.

Add me to the list of demented ones searching for RN#61683 CA#23638, only my panties were made in Sri Lanka and are 84% Nylon and 16% Spandex. Like all of you, I love this product. I see a 90/10% Tactel version but I am a little leery. Jeesh...this is maddening!

JM said...

Did it do any good to contact jockey directly? I love these panties and have worn them for years, but now they are not selling them. Why is this happening? They are rayon, cotton, spandex, and nylon. They are pretty much indestructible but there are just so many years you can expect them to last. The numbers are: RN 61683 CA 23638

Donna Nowak said...

I think it has to do with a change in fabric. Seems like Tactel® replaced the rayon, cotton, spandex, nylon combination. The panties I bought are the same great style, look and feel, but the fabric is Tactel®. It is described as a high-tech fiber that feels softer but is strong, doesn’t tear, and dries 8x faster than cotton. I spoke w/Jockey on multiple occasions during my search. Finally, found a rep willing to help me find the current product with me giving him all kinds of measurements, tags #s, design styles, seamless, etc. He pointed me to “Hip Brief, No Panty Line Promise, Classic Fit, Tactel Nylon Stretch fabric” Here is an sku #37882 23747. There’s another # on the price tag under the size 001372. I bought a large supply and still have 10 pairs, in the original packaging--not wanting to go through that stress again in the near future. I hope the style you like is the same that I had, but if not, keep trying one Jockey sales rep after another until you find one willing to assist. Good luck.

The RN# identifies the company not the style number for the garment. CA#s Identify the company in Canada. The US and Canada have different systems, and all companies are required to add their RNs to care labels by law.

Styles numbers aren't printed on care labels for a number of reasons. The most common is that style numbers change often.

If you need help identifying a style try calling the Jockey consumer help line. They are great at hunting down styles.

I had just started my search when I found this wonderful post - between some of the hilarious comments here and a wealth of information shared by one and all (THANK YOU) I have decided not to look on line anymore. My original Jockey's are women's hi-cut briefs, all cotton made in Honduras with the exact same RN and CA numbers in boring beige so as not to show through anything. I bet mine are easily 7 or 8 years old and in such good shape the waste band is still perfect and the Jockey print is still very visible and the label is still entirely readable - and yes, of course I do wash them. This is why I want more - they actually last. I will try Sears and the Bay in person and hope!

The internet comes through again! Thank you SO MUCH for creating this blog post, saving me hours of research trying to find favorite underwear for my ailing mother-in-law. I learned that the RN and CA numbers both mean "Jockey", which I'd long suspected from previous searches, but Anonymous confirms! And now I'll make sure my brother-in-law provides complete photo documentation (I don't live in the same town) of the beloved undies so I can try to find appropriate replacements.

At least no one has complained that the sizing is inconsistent - that's one step closer to successful purchase!

Starting to think Jockey is running a psychological study on all of us underpants shoppers.....

These numbers have nothing to do with the style or even what it's made into. It can be a shirt, underwear, mens, womens, etc. These numbers are just a government registration number for Jockey. So everything they make has these numbers. It's like having a FCC number on a product. Using these numbers will not help you find a particular style of anything, only Jockey.

Ha! Googling the same two numbers printed inside the panty (RN# 61683 and CA# 23638) brought me to your blog. Your blog has been hugely helpful.

To cut to the chase...the Jockey product numbers I was seeking are 1370, which is the bikini; and 1372, which is the hip brief.

Their names include the phrase, "No Panty Line Promise."

The fabric on both is called Tactel. It is thin, smooth and nylon-like. Its description printed inside my panty says 90% Tactel nylon, 10% Lycra spandex.

Macy's has them, and Amazon has some. Sometimes Kohl's does. And of course, Jockey.com has them.

The color print pattern I wanted to replace from 6 years ago (dark brown background with small black animal dots all over it) appears to be discontinued but I was able to find it yesterday from a reseller on Ebay. Mercari has some resellers with the 1370 and 1372 panties too, though their listings might not cite the style numbers. P------k too, but I loathe that site.

My 1370 purchased 6 years ago says, "Made in Thailand."

(I also have a 1372 from 6 years ago in a still-available pattern of black background with small, dense gray & white dots but if it had any inner printed info, it's worn off.)

Foolish of Jockey to not print the style number on the item, and perplexing to its customers.

Again, this blog has been a mystery solver. Thank you so much!

Same part number problem here. I am an engineer. Everything has a part number. I should only need to look for the part number. Commercial, medical, military, etc. products all have part numbers.

We call this a Confuse-opoly.

Oh my! This post is great! New commentor July 2023 used numbers on my Jockey high leg panty and found this! Thanks for giving me the name to locate!

July 2023 looking for same numbers for women's bra. It's a pullover/sport style, tank style straps, wire free, slightly padded. I think I bought them at Target. I searched my Target items and couldn't find it in past purchases.

I'm glad to hear that gets stuck on one type of underwear and can't seem to move on! I've tried so many other types and also called the jockey company numerous times with no luck!
The type I've been searching for is the women's Jockey comfort wide waistband w no panty line promise. They came in highcut and brief style. I can't stand ANYTHING tight around my waist and the soft 1 1/4 in band around the waist was stretch but had no tight elastic in it. They seem to have replaced them with Jockey® No Panty Line Promise® Tactel® Lace Bikini, but the lace is not comfortably like the plain band.

Hilarious and sad...here in 2023 I too was searching for my favorite pair of undies to replace and found this post. Good to know I can toss the numbers as they apparently mean nothing and just search for Jockey undies that are as close as possible. Thanks for the suggestions above, I will test out a few styles! Good luck all of you frustrated Jockey fans in search of comfort.

True Fit Promise Hipster Style #3375. I ordered online last year and now True Fir Promise doesn’t even show on Jockey website search anymore. They are like the No Panty Line Promose but better. The no panty line tactical brief hipsters do show panty lines and are not even close to the same comfort. I don’t know why they stopped selling style #3375 in stores and quit mfg’ing them if they are a best sellers and run out so quickly. Beats me!
